About the Luxon-Rose Foundation

The Luxon-Rose Foundation supports the next generation of classical singers, pairing emerging talent with some of the finest artists and teachers working today.

The Foundation was established by Matthew Rose, one of the most sought-after basses of his generation, a performer at the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, the Metropolitan Opera and beyond. He founded it in honour of his own teacher, Benjamin Luxon CBE, the celebrated British baritone who passed away in 2024, with the aim of extending to today's emerging singers the same mentorship that shaped his own career.

Visit site

Tosti International Singing Academy

A twelve-day summer residency with a faculty drawn from the front rank of international opera.

Luxon Amit Singing Bursary

Five £1,000 awards made annually to singers aged 18–22.

Faculty includes

Dame Sarah Connolly, Sir Bryn Terfel, Sir Thomas Allen, and Joyce DiDonato.

The challenge

When Matthew approached Colney Island, the Foundation was already real, just not yet visible. Donors were interested. A fundraising concert was two weeks away.

The Tosti Academy and the Luxon Amit Bursary were both live, with faculty, singers and dates attached. What didn't exist yet was anything to show for it: no brand, no website, no printed collateral. The Foundation's entire public presence was Matthew's own profile and a Facebook page.

This wasn't a rebrand or a redesign brief. It was a new charity that needed to look, sound and function like an established one, inside a fortnight, with a fundraising event as the hard deadline.

The work

The starting point was strong: a founder with genuine standing in the opera world, a faculty list that included some of the biggest names in the field, and two concrete programmes already underway. The job was to build the structure to carry all of that credibility somewhere the public, and the donors, could see it.

Brand identity

A full identity built around the Foundation's central idea: that every great singer starts, at some point, as a young voice in a room with a teacher. That "unbroken line from teacher to artist to the next generation" became the throughline for the visual language, extended into two visually connected sub-brands — the Tosti International Singing Academy and the Luxon Amit Singing Bursary.

Tone of voice

Serious, precise, and unsentimental about the craft, without tipping into stuffiness. It draws directly on how Matthew and the wider opera world already talk about mentorship and mastery, distilled into copy that can be reused consistently across web, print and future campaigns.

Website

A WordPress build covering the mission, the two flagship programmes, the people behind the Foundation, an events timeline running through the 2026–27 calendar, and a donation and enquiry path built for a charity still awaiting full charity registration.

Brochure

Print collateral built for the fundraising concert itself, so donors in the room had something physical to hold that matched the story they were hearing.

The result

All of it — brand identity, two sub-brands, tone of voice, a live WordPress website, and a printed brochure — was delivered in two weeks, ahead of the fundraising concert.

Luxon-Rose Foundation website — About section

"Colney Island took a charity that existed mostly in my head and in conversations, and gave it a face two weeks before I needed one. Everyone since, from donors to faculty to applicants, has been able to see immediately what this is and why it matters."

— Matthew Rose, Founder & Artistic Director, The Luxon-Rose Foundation

What's next

With the foundational identity and site in place, work is now scoped to build out the website further and to develop campaign support around the Foundation's ongoing calendar of events, including the Tosti Academy's 2027 admissions cycle and the December concert marking the Foundation's first full year.
